Integer Addition and Subtraction Using Matrices

Students learned how to set up a matrix (see definition on page 86), and then we learned how to add and subtract them. This new concept will allow students to practice integer addition and subtraction in a novel way. Students had 20 minutes of class time to get started on their homework, and many were able to complete 6 of the 9 assigned problems. (I am concerned, though, about those who chose to do no math during this time . . .)
