Collecting Bungee Jumping Data

Students finished collecting bungee jumping data during today's shortened class period. The data will assist students in making a more accurate prediction as to the number of rubber bands it will take to provide Barbie with a thrilling, yet safe, ride through the 400 cm adventure she'll be taking tomorrow.

Tonight's Homework: Complete all questions except #12 on the yellow worksheets.

Finally, Barbie Gets to Bungee Jump!

Students worked in groups of three or four to collect data about how far a Barbie falls with differing numbers of rubber bands attached to her feet. This activity will continue on Tuesday, even though the class period is shortened.

Tonight's Homework: Complete the scatter plot for your data. Get your grade slip signed for extra credit. Remember, Wednesday is the last resource day for this school year. Be sure to use it if you have work to complete or Concept Tests to retake.

Reviewing for the Chapter 11 Test

After correcting last night's homework, students used the class period to review for the chapter 11 test, which will be given in class on Friday. The review worksheet looks an awful lot like another concept test, and the test will look like it.

Tonight's Homework: Complete the cherry worksheet and study for the test over adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing rational expressions.

Adding and Subtracting Fractions with Like and Unlike Denominators

Students turned in their books today! Congratulations--you are almost done with the course!

Adding and subtracting rational expressions works the same way as adding and subtracting fractions. We reviewed how to multiply each term by a name for one that will create terms with a common denominator, and then reviewed how to combine like terms and factor polynomial expressions.

Tonight's Homework: Complete the purple and salmon colored worksheets. Remember, the test over this unit will be on Friday.

Adding and Subtracting Rational Expressions

We added and subtracted rational expressions today. We started with adding expressions with common denominators, and then moved to subtracting expressions with common denominators. Once students felt comfortable with these types of problems, we moved on to adding and subtracting rational expressions with different denominators. Students are reminded that they should look to factor out common factors as often as possible, and to include values that will make the resulting denominator zero.

Tonight's Homework: Lesson 11.6 ( 10 - 30, FCO). Don't forget to bring your book to class on Wednesday.
